Webinar: Rising Inequality and COVID-19 -- What should the World Bank do

29.06.2020

Dear Colleagues & Friends,
The long-term trend toward rising inequality in many countries raises major challenges for economic growth, social cohesion and financial stability. To make matters worse, short term shocks due to the COVID-19 pandemic increase the challenge and urgency for the World Bank to respond with policies that can counter the trend and ease the shock, especially for developing countries. There is no time to loose.

Join World Bank Executive Director (ED) for Germany, Jürgen K. Zattler, in an interactive webinar as he speaks about his recent FES publication, “Rising Inequality,” in which he argues that – to create effective policies to decrease inequality – the World Bank should immediately take two steps: (1) improve research and data collection (!) to better understand the nuances of inequality, and (2) incorporate its goal on shared prosperity into its business model in much the same way as it has done for the goal on extreme poverty.
