Rentner-Partei gewinnt sieben Sitze in Knesset

Israel - 20.05.2006 - von Dr. I. Doron

About a month ago, as a result of the general elections held in Israel, the Retired Persons Party won 7 seats in Israel's parliament (the Knesset) (out of 120 members). Moreover, due to the political structure in Israel - this party is now part of the coalition (headed by Prime Minister Ehud Ulmart), and has received the seats of the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Older Persons.

This was the first time in Israeli history that a senior citizen's party succeeds in being elected to the national parliament (after 5 previous elections which the party failed).
